“In what we call “real life”–if you want to be successful, if you want to get on in the longterm–you always have to come to some kind of compromise with your own emotions: I can’t overreact NOW! I have to accept THIS! I have to ignore THAT!–You’re forever having to tailor your emotions to the circumstances, you go easy on the people you love, you slip into your hundred little daily roles, you juggle, you balance, you weigh things up so as not to jeopardize the entire structure, because you yourself have a stake in it.” – Daniel Glattauer, Love Virtually

For you whom I am talking to, I hope this will help you understand why I have a difficult time with figuring this out. I have a stake in something I do not want to lose because I do not know what I would do if I lost you. Should I not go easy on you? Should I stop tailoring the emotions to please everyone else, including you? Does this “real life” exist or is it that have we passed that realm of our lives and everything is just one day after the next? Do we still have it left? The passion? The fun? That innocent wonder of our future? Life has never been so difficult to comprehend…
